The Cheiro Principle

William John Warner — known to the world as Cheiro — spent decades studying the numerological patterns in the lives of kings, politicians, artists and criminals. His conclusion about names was unambiguous: the vibration of your name, calculated by Chaldean letter values, either harmonises or clashes with the vibration of your birth date.

When the two align, life tends to flow. Opportunities arrive, relationships form naturally, and you feel a sense of forward momentum. When they conflict, effort feels disproportionate to result. The same work produces less. Cheiro described this as a "continual sense of muddle" — not disaster, but friction.

"By changing the spelling of a name — even by a single letter — the entire vibrational quality of that name can shift to a harmonious number. I have seen this work in case after case."

— Cheiro, Book of Numbers

The mechanism is simple: in Chaldean numerology, every letter corresponds to a number from 1 to 8. Add up the values of all letters in your name, reduce to a single digit, and you have your name number. Change one letter, and you change the total.

What Name Correction Actually Is (And Isn't)

Before going further, a critical clarification: name correction in numerology does not mean changing your legal name.

Your legal name on your Aadhaar, PAN card, passport and birth certificate does not need to change. What numerologists refer to as "name correction" is the spelling you use in:

  • Your daily signature
  • Email addresses and social media profiles
  • Business cards and professional correspondence
  • The way you introduce yourself verbally and in writing
  • Children's names (before registration, or the common name used at home)

The numerological theory holds that the vibration you emit is tied to how your name is most frequently used and written — not its legal status. So adding one letter to how you sign your name, or using a slightly different spelling on LinkedIn, is sufficient for the numerological alignment to take effect.

How Name Numbers Are Calculated

Chaldean numerology uses a specific letter-to-number mapping developed in ancient Babylon. Unlike the Pythagorean system (which simply assigns 1–9 alphabetically), Chaldean values are based on the vibrational sound of each letter. Crucially, no letter is assigned the value 9 — 9 is considered sacred and belongs only to Mars energy in the birth chart.

ValueLetters
1A, I, J, Q, Y
2B, K, R
3C, G, L, S
4D, M, T
5E, H, N, X
6U, V, W
7O, Z
8F, P

To calculate your name number: write out your full name as commonly used, assign each letter its Chaldean value, sum all values, then reduce to a single digit by adding the digits together. The single digit is your name number.

Example — "RAHUL": R=2, A=1, H=5, U=6, L=3 → 2+1+5+6+3 = 17 → 1+7 = 8

Before reducing, note the compound number (17 in this case) — it carries its own meaning which we'll cover below.

Which Name Numbers Suit Your Moolank

Not every name number suits every Moolank. Chaldean numerology has a well-established compatibility framework built around planetary friendships. The table below shows the preferred name numbers for each Moolank, the acceptable ones, and those to avoid:

MoolankPlanetPreferred Name NosAcceptableAvoid
1Sun12439678
2Moon27146358
3Jupiter36915248
4Rahu14827356
5Mercury51369247
6Venus36915248

Step-by-Step: How to Adjust Your Spelling

Once you know your target name number, the adjustment is methodical. Here's how:

  1. Calculate your current name number using the Chaldean table above.
  2. Identify your target number from the harmony table — ideally a "Preferred" number for your Moolank.
  3. Calculate the difference — how much does your name total need to increase or decrease?
  4. Identify a letter to add, remove, or change whose Chaldean value equals that difference.
  5. Check the compound number — the unreduced total should ideally be an auspicious compound (14, 15, 19, 21, 23, 24, 27, 28, 32, 33, 41, etc.) rather than inauspicious ones (13, 16, 19 in some traditions).
  6. Confirm the revised spelling feels natural — it should still be recognisable and pronounceable.

Common adjustments: doubling a vowel (Priya → Priyaa), adding a suffix letter (Rahul → Rahull or Raahul), changing a vowel variant (Sumit → Saumit), or dropping a redundant letter.

Three Worked Examples

Example 1 — Priya (Moolank 3, born 12th)

P=8, R=2, I=1, Y=1, A=1 → total 13 → Name Number 4. Moolank 3 (Jupiter) should avoid name number 4 (Rahu). The friction is Saturn-Rahu energy clashing with Jupiter's expansive nature.

Current name
PRIYA
Total 13 → Name No. 4 ⚠️
Corrected name
PRIYAA
Total 14 → Name No. 5 ✓

Adding one 'A' (value 1) takes the total from 13→14, name number from 4→5. Moolank 3 finds name number 5 (Mercury) acceptable — both are intellectual, communicative energies. Compound 14 is also auspicious (the "Unexpected Help" number).

Example 2 — Amit (Moolank 8, born 17th)

A=1, M=4, I=1, T=4 → total 10 → Name Number 1. Moolank 8 (Saturn) should avoid name number 1 (Sun). Sun and Saturn are natural enemies in Jyotish — this creates a combative internal vibration.

Current name
AMIT
Total 10 → Name No. 1 ⚠️
Corrected name
AMITT
Total 14 → Name No. 5 ✓

An alternative spelling "Amitt" (double T, each T=4) adds 4 to the total: 10+4=14 → name number 5. Name number 5 is neutral for Moolank 8. Compound 14 is the "Unexpected Help" symbol — positive for career and finances.

Example 3 — Sunita (Moolank 6, born 15th)

S=3, U=6, N=5, I=1, T=4, A=1 → total 20 → Name Number 2. Moolank 6 (Venus) should avoid name number 2 (Moon). Venus and Moon in excess create emotional over-sensitivity and lack of decisiveness.

Current name
SUNITA
Total 20 → Name No. 2 ⚠️
Corrected name
SUNEETA
Total 24 → Name No. 6 ✓

"Suneeta" (S=3, U=6, N=5, E=5, E=5, T=4, A=1) → total 29 → hmm, that's 11 → 2. Let's try "Suneetaa": same + A=1 = 30 → 3. Actually "Sunitaa" (add one A): 20+1=21 → Name No. 3 ✓. Moolank 6 finds name number 3 (Jupiter) excellent. Compound 21 is the "Crown of Magi" — one of the most auspicious compound numbers.

The Compound Number Layer

A critical aspect that most online "name number calculators" ignore: the compound number (the unreduced total) carries its own symbolism and must be checked independently of the single digit.

For example: a name totalling 19 and a name totalling 28 both reduce to 1. But compound 19 is called "The Prince of Heaven" — highly auspicious, associated with success. Compound 28 is "Trials and Tribulations" — success achieved only after setbacks. Same single digit, very different compound energy.

Key auspicious compound numbers to aim for:

  • 14 — "Unexpected Help" — movement, travel, favourable changes
  • 19 — "The Prince of Heaven" — brilliance, recognition, victory
  • 21 — "Crown of the Magi" — advancement, advancement, honours
  • 23 — "Royal Star of the Lion" — help from superiors and powerful people
  • 27 — "The Sceptre" — authority, command, power
  • 32 — "Unexpected Power" — combination with fate, popularity
  • 41 — Same as 14 in higher octave

Inauspicious compounds to avoid if possible:

  • 13 — "The Broken Promises" — upheaval, change, unreliable foundations
  • 16 — "The Shattered Citadel" — plans coming to nothing at the last moment
  • 26 — Dangerous partnerships, alliances that turn against you

Does It Actually Work?

This is the honest question, and it deserves a direct answer.

Name correction works through two mechanisms — one measurable, one metaphysical:

The measurable mechanism: Your name is your brand. The spelling you use consistently shapes first impressions, search results, how people remember you, and how you introduce yourself. Intentionally choosing a spelling that feels stronger, more authoritative, or more aligned often produces a subtle shift in self-presentation — which can have very real career and social effects. There's genuine psychology behind this.

The metaphysical mechanism: Chaldean numerology holds that numbers carry vibrational frequencies tied to planetary energies, and that these frequencies interact in measurable patterns. Whether you accept this framework or not, thousands of practitioners across India have reported tangible shifts after name corrections — new clients arriving, blocked relationships resolving, health improving.

"Whether it's placebo, psychology, or planetary vibration — the outcome is the same. People who align their name with their birth number tend to report less internal friction and more natural flow."

The safest approach: try it. The adjustment costs nothing. Add one letter to how you sign your name for 40 days — the traditional Chaldean minimum period for a new vibration to "settle" — and observe. If you notice positive changes, you have your answer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to change my legal name on official documents?

No. Numerological name correction refers exclusively to the spelling you use in daily life — signature, social media, email, business cards. Legal documents, Aadhaar, PAN card etc. do not need to change for the numerological effect to work.

How long before I see results?

Most numerologists recommend using the corrected spelling consistently for at least 40 days before assessing any change. Some practitioners say 3 months is needed for the vibration to fully establish. Be consistent — use the corrected spelling everywhere, not just sometimes.

Can I correct my business name?

Yes. The same Chaldean rules apply to business names. The business name number should ideally harmonise with the owner's Moolank or the primary founder's Bhagyank. See our guide on Business Name Numerology for details.

What if my name is already a "preferred" number?

Then no correction is needed. Check your alignment score on our free analyzer — if it shows "Strong Alignment", your current spelling is already working for you.

Can I have the same name as someone else but different name numbers?

Yes — because name correction often involves subtle spelling variations. "Rahul" and "Raahul" look similar but have different totals. The Chaldean value is based on the written letters, not pronunciation.
